It is my great fortune to serve an organization that engages more than 1,000 youth each year through educational programs and outdoor enrichment. Most of our kids live in low-income communities with very limited resources, yet have parents that spend a great deal of time and energy trying to ensure that their children have everything they need to develop successfully. Many are working more than one job and/or putting in overtime hours to make enough to afford basic necessities. Predictably, their children share the burden of these daily challenges and are often ill-equipped to handle the physical, mental and emotional toll.
In a climate of uncertainty, Apple Ridge is committed to the academic and social development of these children. We engage local organizations that provide our families access to community and social service assistance dedicated to ending the cycle of poverty and educational disparity. At the same time, our outdoor enrichment and camp-based programs allow us to sow seeds of self-worth, achievement, exploration, and intellectual curiosity. Our competency-based approach places the child at the center of each learning experience. Utilizing evidence-based practices paired with fun-filled projects and social emotional learning, we create opportunity for social success and intellectual growth.
There are no quick fixes for the challenges posed by poverty and lack of access. Our families face uphill battles that are not likely to lessen anytime soon. This is why Apple Ridge Farm will continue to take on these challenges with our families, hand-in-hand. With your continued generosity and gracious support, we have and will continue to help our parents provide everything our kids need to become successful.
Looking forward to the future.
